Major initiatives

Apart from the usual activities, BCCS endeavours organizing various programs such as blood donation camps, cancer awareness camp, no-tobacco campaign, musical therapy programs for reducing mental stresses of the cancer patients, free medical check-up camps etc.

Many patients usually require transfusion of bloods during the treatment of cancer. For the benefits of cancer patients, BCCS organized Blood Donation camps on 13th Sept 2014 and 1st October 2016 at Om Navjeevan Hospital, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, in association with Tata Memorial hospital, Kharghar. The collected blood units had been used for the cancer patients of the "Tata Memorial hospital". Large number of students and volunteers had participated and donated blood.

BCCS organizes various cancer awareness programs for the benefit of the cancer patients, their family members and the society. On 3rd Nov 2012 and 31st Jan 2016 BCCS associated in organizing cancer detection camps with Indian Cancer Society and Mahakali ALM trust at Andheri (East), Mumbai. Indian Cancer Society had extended all the necessary supports for cancer detection tests of over 100 participants in each camp. On 11th June 2016 BCCS organized a massive cancer awareness program at CIDCO auditorium, Vashi. Eminent Onco-surgeon of Fortis Hospital, Vashi had delivered a highly informative talk for the benefits of the patients and participants.

Use of tobacco products is one of the critical risks of cancer in India. Therefore, generating awareness against the use of tobacco is utmost essential. In line with the world no-tobacco day, BCCS organized a no-tobacco campaign in association with Fortis hospital Vashi on 31st May 2016 at Kharghar. A human rally was organized with slogans and posters displaying the message against the use of tobacco.

As a part of the palliative care, BCCS organized a musical program for the benefit of cancer patients on 13th October 2012 to relieve their mental stresses and to provide psychological supports. Total 15 renowned artists performed their bests for the noble cause at free of cost. During the cancer awareness program on 11th June 2016, BCCS had also organized some cultural events to attract more participants. One of the important events was a play "Karengar Ligiri" written by doyen of Assamese culture "Rup konwar Jytiprasad Agarwalla" produced by "Natyam", one local cultural organization. Nearly 600 people enjoyed and appreciated the program.

In its 2nd annual day, BCCS provided stretcher and collapsible wheel chair for the benefit of cancer patients at Assam Bhavan, Vashi, Mumbai and Deepsikha Cancer Care Foundation. In its 3rd annual day BCCS has provided a drinking water purification system at Assam Bhavan, Vashi.

Upcoming Initiatives

In line with the ongoing activities, BCCS is planning to organize a cancer detection camp in association with Indian Cancer Society and a Blood Donation Camp in association with Tata Memorial Centre at Navi Mumbai. BCCS is also planning to expand its activities with cancer awareness programs to the North-Eastern part of India.

Area of work / Operational areas

Presently the activities of BCCS are limited to the city of Mumbai and the Navi-Mumbai suburb.

Beneficiaries

Initially, the primary beneficiaries were the cancer patients from the North-Eastern part of India. Presently, BCCS also provides supports to the patients from other parts of India.

In line with the ongoing activities, BCCS is planning to organize a cancer detection camp in association with Indian Cancer Society and a Blood Donation Camp in association with Tata Memorial Centre at Navi Mumbai.
